Celaeno
Celaeno is one of the Harpies, three sisters who were part bird,
sometimes referred to as Zeus's virgin eagles, allowing me to use one to represent the sign of
Virgo, whose constellation is a winged maiden. Foul, vicious creatures, they were sent by Zeus
to torture and punish mortals and transport them to Tartarus, the hell of the underworld. Celaeno
means "the dark". Her sisters are Aello, "storm swift" and Ocypete, "the swift wing". They are
considered personifications of the destructive force of the wind. Celaeno forces herself into
the crew in my narrative by coercion. She is constantly at odds with the rest of the cast as she
is antagonistic by nature. Iris, goddess of the rainbow and Hera's herald, is another sister
of the Harpies.
