Themis
Themis is the leader of my band of mythological misfits, each of
whom represents a sign of the Zodiac. She carries the scales of Libra and is one of the original
12 Titans, children of Uranus the sky and Gaia the Earth. She is the goddess of justice, and uses
her balance scales to weigh evidence, and her sword to cut fact from fiction. In my story, she
says she can weigh men's souls on her scales. She also has the ability to see the future, which
enables her to predict her opponents' movements and to guide her followers on their mission.
Themis means divine law or the will of the gods. According to some sources, she is the mother of
Prometheus and Epimetheus, among others. Her brother Titan, Iapetus, is sometimes named as her
consort, but other myths say that Zeus is the father of her children. For the purpose of my story,
I have ignored her other children and any nuptial connection to Zeus.
